Alongside the five finalists is the acclaimed winner for best translation Fulvio Ferrari for The art of collecting flies by Fredrik Sjöberg, published by Iperborea.

The Festival of Writers - born from the Santa Maddalena Foundation led by Beatrice Monti della Corte, wife of Gregor von Rezzori, is promoted and supported by the City of Florence as part of the activities of the Gabinetto G.P. Vieusseux and is made with the contribution of the Ente Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze.  As every year, the Festival will open with a keynote by a great writer. Following the footsteps of John Banville, Michael Cunningham, Zadie Smith, Emmanuel Carrère and Jhumpa Lahiri is one of the most popular Israeli writers of the new generation: Etgar Keret. His books, translated in 35 countries and into 31 languages, have earned him prestigious awards and unanimous international recognition. More than forty short films were born from his stories, one of which won the MTV Prize in the United States (1998). His first feature, Jellyfish, shot with his wife Shira Gefen, won the Cannes' Camera d'Or "award in 2007. Keret currently teaches at Ben Gurion University of the Negev in Beer Sheva and at Tel Aviv University. His latest book is Seven years of happiness (Feltrinelli, 2015). His keynote, entitled "Stories we tell: The role of storytelling in my family's life", will be held Monday, June 6 at 18:30 in the Pazzi Chapel, the Basilica of Santa Croce.

The award ceremony, during which will be announced the winner of the narrative section, will take place Wednesday, June 8 at 18.30, in the Salone dei Cinquecento in Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, led by the Mayor Dario Nardella. During the ceremony will be also awarded the Gregor von Rezzori Young Readers Award, which rewards the 5 best essays on finalists’ books, made by 100 high school students in Florence.

The award is one of the events of the Writers' Festival held in Florence, on the balcony of the Palazzo Strozzi, the 6, 7 and 8 of June 2016, an event dedicated to international authors and the most original talents of world literature. Among the guests of the next edition: a tribute to Gregor von Rezzori on the occasion of the publication of Cain.
